Countryside Ride 2017

July 25, 2017 By Tides Management Group 2 Comments

We climbed the peaks of the Saanich Peninsula!  Well at least those with a tasting room at the top!  Our Countryside Ride E-bikers took on some challenging trails and hills to enjoy the fruits of their labour.  From markets to farms to craft beverage makers, with ice cream cones, fat sandwiches, fresh berries and tasters of cider, beer and gin, the ride was wonderful … as were the group who pedaled over hill and dale.  Don’t let anyone tell you that riding an electric bike is a cake walk!  We got our exercise climbing hills and traversing trails which would challenge any standard cyclist. The Pedego Electric Bike is the great equalizer allowing everyone to participate regardless of their cycling ability or physical condition.

We enjoyed a perfect day for cycling …. overcast, no wind, occasional light misting rain … as we popped from market to winery to farm checking out the Peninsula fresh production.  The farms offered fresh veggies and such to be picked.  The markets showcased the treasures of the Peninsula.  The craft beverage makers provided tasters of their unique beverages.

Our al fresco lunch included big bite sandwiches custom crafted by each rider at the Red Barn Market, tasty berries from the Gobind fields and well-paired Coastal Cider from Tod Creek.  Yummy!

Our beverage palates were tested with cider, beer and gin.  Each with a lesson in the craft making and uniqueness of production.  Best of all was our gin education from Brad at de Vine. We arrived as neophyte tasters and departed ready to judge the next distilled spirits competition.  Thanks Brad for our training!

Not to be forgotten, the farms and their produce were dutifully picked and packed on our bikes for fresh salads that night! Gobind was berry-licious with fresh berries and divine jam.  The tastes just kept coming as Evelyn let us sample across the rows of Marsh Farms.  Artichokes, beans, arugula, carrots and varieties of lettuces were carefully plucked from their beds.

A great tasting time was had by all!  Ride ON!

I had a fantastic day. Learned alot about ebikes , once I understood the mechanics of the bike, I felt much more comfortable. I even had a moment when I was close to flying, missed the roof. What a great new experience. At the tasting sites, the personal were very informative and very welcoming, very eager to share their knowledge. I would certainly look forward to a future event. Thank you again for a terrific day.
