On the weekend of September 6-8, the Bard on Beacon – Sidney Shakespeare by the Sea was brought to the bandshell in Beacon Park, Sidney. The talented actors from Shakespeare by the Sea performed “A Midsummer’s Night Dream” and “Romeo and Juliet” under the sunny afternoon and star-dotted sky. This inaugural season was supported through the generosity of major sponsors Seaside Magazine, East Shore Village, Sidney Waterfront Inn and the Mary Winspear Centre. The cast and crew were thankful each show for their meals that were kindly donated by Fish on Fifth, Woodshed Pizza, Sidney Pier Hotel and Best Western Emerald Isle.
TIDES – The Island’s Destination and Event Service would like to extend thanks to Robert Light, artistic director, for his dedication and vision. TIDES would also like to thank the Town of Sidney for their support during this season.
The success of the Bard on Beacon comes from the residents and visitors to Sidney who enjoyed the live theatre productions. Guests of the shows said it was “fantastic!,” “live outdoor theatre at its best,” and mentioned “the actors were just wonderful.” It is a true joy to share something as timeless as Shakespeare with you.
This year, $1,000 was raised at the performances to support the local charities: The Mary Winspear Centre Children’s Art and Music Fund, Team 4 Hope, and Tour de Rock. TIDES and the cast and crew thank you for your support of these worthy causes.
The future of Bard on Beacon is encouraging and TIDES is excited to produce a winter showing of “Macbeth” at the Mary Winspear Centre. Next summer, a Shakespeare festival featuring “Macbeth” and a Shakespearean comedy (to be named) will be showcased.
