On Sunday, June 24, 2012 the streets of Greater Victoria came alive with cyclists participating in Ryder Hesjedal’s Tour de Victoria. TIDES coordinated the Tour’s Sidney 50km start and the weekend’s community activities. A remarkable event!
The Tour de Victoria highlights the incredible biking routes southern Vancouver Island has to offer. This year featured three legs of different lengths. In order to include more of the communities in the event, the 140km ride headed out from the B.C. Legislature in Victoria, to the start line of the 100km ride to City Centre Park in Langford and the 50km started at Parklands Secondary in Sidney. All three distances were timed from start to finish. The 140km and 100km riders were also timed on the locally feared Munn’s Road hill climb! Cyclists participating in the different distances all finished at the same point, the B.C. Legislature in downtown Victoria.
